The best time to apply for teaching jobs in China often depends on the type of school you’re aiming for. Generally, schools fall into two categories: Monday-to-Friday schools (traditional schools) and language training centers. Let’s start with the Monday-to-Friday schools and their hiring seasons.
Monday-to-Friday jobs include:

Most Monday-to-Friday schools align with China’s academic year, which follows a schedule different from many Western countries. The school year generally starts in September and ends in June, with two semesters-the fall and spring semesters. Most job openings for foreign teachers are available during these academic years.
Fall Semester (September):
Typically, the best time to apply for teaching positions in China is during the late spring and summer months, when most schools begin their recruitment process. The hiring process usually takes place from March to July. And some schools may begin recruiting teachers more than six months in advance, around December and January.
Spring Semester (February):

When Do Language Training Centers Hire Teachers?
If you’re considering language training centers, the best time to apply for teaching jobs in China is much more flexible than traditional schools. These centers hire teachers year-round, so there’s no need to stick to specific seasons or semesters.
However, you can’t just choose any random date to arrive in China—you’ll need to agree on a start date during the hiring process. The good news is that if you experience minor delays and need to push your start date by a month or so, most training centers will understand as long as you’re actively working on your document preparations.
How Much Time Do I Have to Give Myself to Prepare?
Since you need time to take interviews and do some paperwork, we recommend you apply for a teaching job about 3-6 months before your desired start date.

Back in the day, after you get the offer, it usually takes about 2 months to authenticate the required documents (TEFL certificate, Criminal Background Check, and Diploma). But from Nov 7, 2023, China accepts Apostille. If your home country is on board with Apostille, you can skip the hassle – Apostille usually takes just 2-3 days.
After you prepare all the documents, submit a copy of your documents with a copy of your passport and health statement to your employer to apply for WPNL. It takes around four weeks to get the WPNL. After WPNL is in your hand, it takes around two weeks for you to get a Z visa. Once you get the Z visa, you can fly to China and be ready for your new job.
