One important thing you’ll need is a Non-Criminal Record Certificate, also known as a Certificate of No Criminal Record. If you’re an expat living in Shenzhen and trying to figure out how to apply for a Criminal Background in Shenzhen, this article is right for you.

Who Is Eligible to Apply for a Certificate of No Criminal Record in Shenzhen?

If you have obtained a residence permit and lived in Shenzhen continuously for over six months, you can apply for a Certificate of No Criminal Record in Shenzhen. This certificate, issued by the Exit-Entry Administration Bureau of the Shenzhen Municipal Public Security Bureau, can help with work, immigration, visas, enrollment, etc.

Does the Shenzhen Non-Criminal Record Certificate Apply Everywhere in China?

No, a Non-Criminal Record Certificate in Shenzhen only proves you have no criminal record while you live in Shenzhen. So, if you don’t have a residence permit and haven’t lived in Shenzhen for more than six months, this certificate does not apply to you.

Steps to Apply for a Shenzhen Certificate of No Criminal Record (Including Required Documents)

To apply for a Certificate of No Criminal Record in Shenzhen, just follow these 2 steps:

Step 1: Get Your Documents Ready

You will need:

  • Your original passport
  • Registration Form of Temporary Residence for Foreign Nationals (the 180-day temporary Accommodation registration form)

Step 2: Visit the Shenzhen Entry-Exit Administration Center

You don’t need an appointment. Just go to the Shenzhen Entry-Exit Administration Center Public Security Bureau with your passport and registration form. Fill out the form there, and you’re all set!

How Long Will It Takes to Get a Shenzhen Non-Criminal Record?

Usually, you’ll receive your No Criminal Record in about 3 to 15 workdays after applying.

Can Someone Else Apply for Non-Criminal Background on My Behalf?

Yes, if you can’t go to the Shenzhen Entry-Exit Administration Center yourself, you can have someone else apply for the No Criminal Record on your behalf.

If someone(attorny) is applying for you, they’ll need:

  • Power of Attorney (notarized and apostilled)
  • The attorney’s ID card or passport
  • Scanned copies of your passport and visa pages (both notarized and apostilled)
  • Your Registration Form of Temporary Residence for Foreign Nationals

Finally, remember that you won’t be able to get a Non-Criminal Record in Shenzhen if:

  1. You have lived in Shenzhen for less than six months.
  2. You haven’t officially registered your residence in Shenzhen.
  3. You have a criminal history in Shenzhen.
