Founded in 2016, BEIJING HAIDIAN KAIWEN ACADEMY is a flagship International School in Haidian District that provides bilingual teaching in Chinese and English for grades K-12.
Haidian Kaiwen curriculum system adheres to the school running concept of combining Chinese and western, under the guidance of the compulsory education outline, draws lessons from the hundred years of school running experience of Tsinghua affiliated middle school and foreign advanced curriculum ideas for expansion and research, and forms a Chinese English bilingual curriculum system suitable for the K-12 stage. The course content combines Kaiwen’s advantageous disciplines and leads quality education with science and technology, art and sports. It is a set of curriculum system with Kaiwen’s characteristics.
On April 26, 2020, the school was recognized as the second batch of schools in Beijing that meet the management standards of compulsory education schools.
Preschool
Based on the physical and mental development characteristics and cognitive level of preschool children (5-6 years old), according to the common Corestate standards of the United States, combined with the teaching content and subject classification of Haidian Kaiwen primary school, an international bilingual preschool bridging course is created.

The curriculum of Haidian Kaiwen primary school is a bilingual curriculum system combining Chinese and western with reference to the nine-year compulsory education outline and the common core state curriculum standards of the United States. In the primary school stage, the curriculum and teaching activities are arranged around the cultivation of interest, the learning of basic learning skills, and the guidance of thinking mode. Teachers of all subjects use the form of joint lesson preparation to know the progress and key points of each subject, which has stronger interdisciplinary and echo, to help students establish extensive knowledge association. Use advanced teaching methods to create layered teaching, enlightening thinking and practical activities for students, to inspire and guide students’ independent thinking and cooperative innovation.
Junior high school (grades 6-8)
Based on the years of practical experience of affiliated schools of Tsinghua University and its international department, combined with the common core curriculum standards of American States, integrating the basic courses of Chinese compulsory education, Haidian Kaiwen bilingual characteristic curriculum system is independently developed.
The curriculum of junior middle school pays attention to the cultivation of students in both academic and personal growth, to make full preparations for their smooth entry into senior high school. While fully opening the nine-year compulsory education curriculum, it integrates the international curriculum and American teaching concept, bilingual teaching and personality cultivation. In order to enhance students’ participation in the classroom and strengthen the connection and interaction between students and teachers of various disciplines, the school adopts a comprehensive class system and hierarchical teaching mode. The administrative class is in parallel with the teaching class, and the whole person education and elite education are in parallel. Different training programs are formulated for each student.
High school (Grades 9-12)
The credit system is implemented in senior high school. Students can flexibly choose the courses they are interested in after completing the courses of basic subjects. The curriculum and class arrangement refer to the American high school curriculum system and introduce several American University prerequisite courses (AP courses) to meet the different academic and professional needs of students. The course content includes challenging core academic courses, rich elective courses, various expansion courses and volunteer service activities. Under the guidance of further education guidance, complete relevant academic research courses, extracurricular activities and meaningful community services, to make full preparations for the upcoming university study.
